The science of subtlety

  • Softens forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet
  • Preserves natural movement and expression
  • Helps slow the formation of new lines
  • Quick appointment with minimal downtime
  • A two-week review appointment to check and refine the result

Anti-wrinkle injections use botulinum toxin type A to temporarily block the nerve signals that tell a muscle to contract. Applied precisely to the muscles that fold the skin during expression, this softens the lines those movements create — most often across the forehead, between the brows (the glabella) and around the eyes.

Dr Maral Taghadosi maps every face individually, assessing how your muscles move before deciding where and how much to treat. Conservative dosing keeps movement and expression intact — the goal is a rested, refreshed version of you, never a frozen one.

The appointment takes 15 to 30 minutes, uses a very fine needle and needs no anaesthetic or only a local anaesthetic if you prefer. You can return to your day straight after, though a small raised bump or the occasional pinpoint bruise is possible for a short time.

Clinical protocol

How the treatment works

  • 01

    Consultation & mapping

A face-to-face assessment of how your muscles move, your facial balance and your goals, with an honest conversation about what is realistic.

  • 02

    Treatment

A series of small injections with a fine needle, targeting the muscles agreed in your plan. Quick, with minimal discomfort and only minimal downtime.

  • 03

    Two-week review

A review at around two weeks, once the effect has fully developed, to check symmetry and refine a specific area if needed.

The science

Why it works

Botulinum toxin type A works at the neuromuscular junction, where nerves meet muscle. It blocks the release of acetylcholine, the chemical messenger that triggers a muscle to contract. The treated muscle relaxes, the overlying skin stops creasing with that movement, and existing lines soften while new ones are slowed. The effect is temporary — nerve endings gradually form new connections over three to four months, and movement returns.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

They use a purified protein, botulinum toxin type A, to temporarily block the nerve signals to specific facial muscles. With those muscles relaxed, the skin above them creases less, so dynamic lines soften and new ones are slowed.

How much do anti-wrinkle injections cost?

From £225 for one area and £275 for two, plus a £40 consultation fee that's credited toward your treatment if you book within a week. Three or more areas include a free top-up within two weeks — ask at your consultation.

How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?

The effect typically lasts 3–4 months. It often lasts a little longer with regular, well-spaced treatments over time.

When will I see results?

The effect begins in 3–5 days and reaches its peak at around two weeks — the right point for a review appointment to check and refine the result.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal. Tiny raised bumps settle within about half an hour, and occasionally there is a pinpoint bruise that make-up covers easily.

Does it hurt?

There is only slight discomfort. The needle is very fine, and most people describe it as a quick sharp scratch.

Will I look frozen?

No. Dr Maral uses conservative dosing to preserve natural movement — the aim is to look rested, not expressionless.

Am I suitable?

Most healthy adults over 18 are. It isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions. Your medical history is reviewed at consultation.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Anti-wrinkle injections are often combined with dermal fillers or Profhilo as part of a wider plan, discussed at your consultation.

Results vary by individual; suitability confirmed at consultation.
